It will cover a planned area of over 80km2 , extending like a belt along the Shanghai-Nanjing second grade highway, where ¡°one zone¡± and ¡°one park¡± have basically been constructed, i.e. Wuxi National Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone and Wuxi-Singapore Industrial Park. This city is the new growth area of Wuxi¡¯s economy. It will take the lead in the city¡¯s stride towards the 21st century, with new and modern living spaces offered to the citizens, and the harmonious development of employment and housing. It will be a good example for the urban and rural integration as people can enjoy pleasant green areas. A certain area of the industrial land will be arranged, based on the ¡°one zone¡± and ¡°one park¡±. Land for education as well as scientific research purposes will be prepared to build up the comprehensive scientific processing sector. Residential housing and urban constructions will also be facilitated, such as the administrative, financing, trade and commercial center and cultural, entertainment and tourist areas. Area south of the airport will be developed as the base for the city¡¯s ¡°Vegetable Basket¡± project. The easily accessible, reasonably combined and distinctly leveled road system demonstrated the excellent functions of the road network. It emphasizes on the connection with the outside transport and strengthens its link with the City within the City, the Water and Hill City as well as the adjacent cities and towns. Uniformed infrastructures are arranged, considering the long-term development capacity of the new city. The joining point for the old and new city is pre-arranged. Green belts are arranged in the middle of the highways and along both banks of the river, and vast green areas and lawns will be built. The river courses and watersheds will be treated with a planned ¡°City Canal¡± to demonstrate the water features of the city. Water and Hill City The future Wuxi will be a beautiful city with pleasant water and hill scenery. The city covers Xishan, the New Canal, and Mali Port in the east, the Tuoshan Island in the Taihu Lake in the south, Mashan Island in the west and Hui Hill in the north. It covers a total area of 320km2, among which 180 km2 is water surface and 60 km2 is hilly areas. The landform shapes like two crossed arms: the area of Shibawan (18 twists) to Mashan Island looks like the ¡°right arm¡±, where vacationing facilities and scenic spots will be arranged. On the other hand, the Turtle Head Park to Junzhang Hill is the ¡°left arm¡±, where sightseeing spots as well as film and TV entertainment will be the focus. The center of Hui Hill, Helie, Yugang and Zhongqiao will be developed for all the matching facilities. Central Commercial District It will cover an area of 2.5 km2, extending from the existing Jiefang Ring Road to the railway station. Its major functions are financing, trade, information and administration, etc. Facilities for commercial retailing, cultural entertainment will be arranged, thus making it the core of the city within the city. The short-term layout of the commercial district has been planned. The area extending from the Shenglimen (triumph) Gate to Tongyun Road will be prepared for commerce and hotels. Around Sanyang Square will be large shopping, food and beverage and entertainment centers; Renmin Road and Jiankang Road intersection will be information and commodity trading center; Around the Cong¡¯an Temple, local snacks, and specialties will be the features, while Cong'ning Road will be designated for cultural purposes. |
